What We Do

Jefferson County Long Term Recovery Group (JCLTRG) serves disaster-impacted households throughout Jefferson County, Texas. Our mission is to help individuals and families prepare for disasters, reduce unnecessary suffering, and support long-term recovery when disasters occur. Disaster Preparedness Preparedness is the foundation of resilience. JCLTRG develops and distributes accurate, locally relevant disaster preparedness resources through printed storm preparedness bags and our free mobile app, Jefferson County TX Disaster Guide. Designed specifically for Jefferson County residents, the app provides easy-to-access, user-friendly information covering what to do before, during, and after a disaster. By equipping households with reliable information and practical tools, we help our community recover stronger, faster, and better. Community Education Having the right resources is only effective if people know how to use them. In partnership with Lamar University, JCLTRG developed SmartStorm, a free online learning portal that provides practical guidance for preparing for and recovering from hurricanes, floods, and other severe weather events. SmartStorm features concise, step-by-step training on topics such as documenting and self-reporting disaster damage, safely mucking out flood-damaged homes, and other essential recovery practices. The training is available at no cost and can be accessed online at: https://www.jeffersoncountylongtermrecovery.org/es/smartstorm Disaster Recovery Following a disaster, JCLTRG provides critical home repair assistance to vulnerable households, including uninsured and underinsured low-income families, older adults, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and single-parent households with dependent children. Our goal is to restore disaster-damaged homes to a safe, sanitary, and secure condition as quickly as possible, allowing families to return home and begin rebuilding their lives with dignity and stability.
