We are excited to share details of our upcoming Day of Caring! 

Day of Caring is a great opportunity to join others to make a difference right here in our community. United Way of Orange County started this initiative in order to bring individuals together to complete special projects which will allow nonprofits to better serve their clients. Our Day of Caring is a great way to give back!

It’s set for Friday, September 12, 2025.  We will meet at the Dow Business Center (2601 Irving St. Orange, TX 77630) at 7:45 a.m. for a light breakfast and photos (a large group photo of ALL participants AND photos of each participating team.)  Once the general assembly completes teams will disburse to their assigned project worksites.  Projects should wrap up by lunchtime.  Teams will be assigned a Day of Caring project based on team size and project scope of work.  There is a potential that your team may be divided into smaller teams, if necessary. 

To sign up, you will need to complete the online registration form or team form.  Please do not forget to add each team members shirt size, team name and email address.  REGISTRATION MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN JULY 31, 2025.

We are excited to have you join the event as a volunteer and look forward to a fun night of BINGO that will benefit our Early Literacy Initiatives. This event is made possible through the generous support of Entergy & Golden Pass LNG and supporting sponsors.

You will assist the donations manager go through bags of donations, separating them into seasons, male/female, sizes, etc.  From donations, we stock our "Boutique" where our clients "shop" for free.  What we cannot use goes to our resale shops in Woodville and Jasper. All proceeds from the resale shops goes directly back to the shelter to cover expenses that are not funded in the grants.

Calling all chefs! We are looking for someone to volunteer once a month (or more) to teach our residents how to cook. Our Journey House program is for 18-24yo young men. We would love to have someone teach them how to cook as a Life Skills class. Our Journey House program is geared toward young men ages 18-24yo who need extra assistance at becoming independent and stable. They live on campus, and we help them find jobs, get into school, and teach them life skills. We need mentors on campus to befriend our residents. They need help with social skills. Talking to them about common topics, watching movies, playing on the basketball court, taking them to local events, or taking them fishing are some ideas that a mentor could do. As trained advocates, our volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for abused and neglected children in court.  Because of their work, these children find a safe, permanent place to call home.
All it takes is a commitment to do what is best for a child.

A Life-Changing ServiceBefore receiving a case assignment, our volunteers undergo thorough training in courtroom procedure, social services, the juvenile justice system, and the special needs of abused and neglected children.

Establishing a relationship with the child is one of the most important things a CASA volunteer does. The ideal relationship is one that maximizes the CASA volunteer's ability to advocate successfully for the child.

Many of our homebound clients either cannot afford pet food or have no access to it so they try to share their own noon with their pets.

Please donate bags of dry dog or cat food.  We give gallon sized bags to our clients with pets twice a month so their furry friends can have their own meal.

Volunteers provide food, assist with shelter.  Volunteers offer comfort and assist with helping families affected by major disasters such as fire.

Volunteers serve as Ombudsman in area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. **Background check and 36 hours of training required.

Volunteers assist in Day Surgery, Patient Escort, Giftshop, ICU Surgery Desk, Pharmacy Assistant, and Popcorn/Candy Cart. Volunteers MUST sign-up with Golden Triangle RSVP and Baptist Hospital of SETX. 

Volunteers will make daily phone calls to homebound elderly to check on their welfare. **Background check is required.

Tutors and ROAR (Reach Out and Read Program) in area elementary schools. **Background check required. Volunteers must register online with BISD.

Tutoring adults in ESL (English as a Second Language) and High School Equivalency that will lead them into economic growth.

Teach Educational Land Activities to students in regards to the Neches vast and diverse ecosystems. Volunteers will be trained on the activities of their choosing (Ex. Nature Exploration-Walk, Nature Games: Food Chain - Food Web, Watershed – Pollution, Trash & Treasures). Most school trips are in April and May between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Assistant may select volunteer days from NRIB schedule which will include: date, timeframe, number of student groups, student grade level, and number of volunteers for land activities.

Assist with shelving and processing books and fundraising.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). Volunteers prepare tax returns for low to moderate individuals and families.  Food preparation and food service at the Hospitality Center, soup kitchen in Port Arthur, Market to Hope, serve as market assistant.  Volunteers also serve as Group Facilitator for Elijah’s Place.

Volunteers assist with patient escort, in giftshop, information desk, and surgery waiting room. Volunteers must register with Golden Triangle RSVP and Christus Hospital- St. Elizabeth. **Background check required.

Assist new mothers with taking care of their new- born baby by giving out information on Shaken Baby Syndrome, SIDS, Safe Sleep and Post-Partum Depression. **Criminal history and CPS background check required.

Plant, weed, water and harvest plants at local community garden which supports area soup kitchens

Volunteers assist with packing and food distribution to clients, stocking shelves and office help.

Volunteers are needed to assist with assembly of bags of food on Mondays before second Tuesday and 2nd & 3rd Tuesday with food distribution to clients.

Putting out milk, juice, cereal, signing clients in at day center for the homeless.  Assist at registration and hygiene desk.

Volunteers are needed to assemble packets, help at community events and assist public with ISTAT (Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool)

Assist with food distribution, help in the clothing store and interview clients for assistance with rent and utilities.

Distribute health related materials to nursing home and assisted living residents that will enable them to make better decisions about their healthcare. These volunteers are members of the choir at the Center.

Volunteers are needed to serve in respite capacity, going into patient’s homes and giving the caregiver a needed break. Patients are located in Jefferson and Orange Counties. **Training and background check provided by Southeast Texas Hospice, TB skin test is also required.

Serving at area funerals of veterans by participating in honor detail.

Delivering meals on wheels to our local citizens who are homebound elderly or disabled; assist in food pantry, clothing mission and interview clients.

Provide snacks for veterans, provide vital medications for veterans in the pharmacy and help transport veterans to urgent doctor appointments in Houston.  Volunteers are needed to make phone calls to patients regarding next day appointments.  “Red Coat” Ambassadors are needed to greet at the Clinic to those entering the building. 

You can make a difference! UBM's Meals on Wheels Program is in need of drivers to deliver meals to clients on Tuesdays and Fridays each week from about 10:30 to 12:30. We are always looking for more volunteer docents! A docent is a tour guide who is knowledgeable in the subject matter and a great storyteller!

There will be training so that you can become an expert in the different exhibits at Museum of the Gulf Coast. 

This position is great for someone who has a flexible schedule, as docents aren't needed every day. 

With the increase in non-English speaking clients. We are in search of a volunteer that could possibly help us in best serving this community. Yes, we have translation apps but we are looking for a more personal approach and are willing to learn all that we can in order to excel in meeting the needs of this population. 

Veterans are a valuable resource for other veterans at the end of life. We are looking for willing veteran volunteers to join our team! We strive to provide veteran-centric care to our patients. Volunteers can assist with delivering certificates to our patients at bedside and sharing experiences and common language.

We are seeking tutors for group and one on one sessions. We ask for two hours a week for the student. You can meet at the GOALS office or another public location. We have students which can only meet in the evening and some which can only meet during the day. Times and days to meet can be at your convenience to accommodate your schedule. Tutoring online is an option.

Volunteers needed to answer phone calls from listeners calling in to make donations during the station's fundraising campaign. Training is provided.
